The hunger strike of people demanding a referendum has entered its sixth day. The General Coordinator of the protest movement, G.Uyanga, answers questions.
How many are on hunger strike? How is the health condition of the elders?
The hunger strike began with seven people. Yesterday 27 more joined it. On the sixth day we are weak. Those who are protesting outside are suffering more than us because we are in a warm ger.
When will you stop?
We have not had any response to our demand as yet. Today MP E.Munkh-Ochir came to meet us. He said people’s opinion must be honored and promised he will discuss it with other MPs. We will continue the hunger strike unless our demand is met.
Is it true that 20 of you want to end the strike and that protesters from Khovd province have returned home saying the Government has fulfilledits promise?
That is false information being spread to affect our morale. The number of strikers is increasing, not decreasing. There are 80-90 citizens constantly participating in the sit-in. There is even a 92-year-old man among them. We hope the people’s wish and demand will be honored. Coordinators of our movement went to meet MPs Z.Altai, S.Oyun and D.Enkhbat.
In a related development Parliament Speaker D.Demberel has ordered establishment of a working group of MPs to hold talks with leaders of the civil movements. The working group will consist of MPs.
