The Governor’s Office feels threatened that the number of “ninjas” or artisanal miners in Tuv aimag might reach 2,000 in summer. They are most active in Zaamar, Jargalant, Sumber and Sergelen soums and get involved in drink-related and other crimes. Artisanal miners also do not do care for environmental recovery and so the damage to nature spreads year by year.

The aimag police have so far checked 50 citizens in three areas and seized documents of 17 cars.
