Police officers trying to stop water being taken to the horses in Sukhbaatar Square had to give in on Friday after arguments with some 30 members of the civil movements who have erected gers for herders there. Members of three civil movements -United for Rivers and Lakes, Khuder River, and Gal Undesten – are holding a protest at the square, demanding the Government’s resignation and Parliament’s dissolution. Many of the protesters are herders from the countryside who have come on horseback to demand a stop to mining activity that destroys pastureland. 

Carrying water to the square is forbidden under the law, but a colonel of the police relented after talking to the leaders of the protest, especially with the Head of United for Rivers and Lakes, G.Dashdemberel.
