Of the 33,000 international marriages registered in 2009, 25,100 involved South Korean men marrying foreign women. Some 81 percent of foreign brides came from China, Vietnam or the Philippines, and 851 came from Cambodia, which recently instituted a temporary ban on marriage to Korean men. There was a rise in the number of brides from the U.S. (416), Mongolia (365), Uzbekistan (365), and Russia (139). The number of Korean women marrying Mongolian men is not reported by Statistics Korea perhaps because it is too small.
