The third meeting of the National Committee of Employment Support Year was held yesterday at Government House. Prime Minister S.Batbold opened the meeting and said that family business activity would be supported, and the focus should be on permanent job places and not just seasonal or occasional work. He favored tax and other incentives for employers, but did not want them to be like social welfare measures. He also wanted efforts to be made to make it easier and cheaper to start a business or to take up any other employment-generating activity in remote areas.

The Prime Minister also wanted consideration of the issue of compensation for citizens incapacitated by occupational diseases, and referred to the recent talk of putting a total halt to mining in Nalaikh because labor safety could not be guaranteed there. The Government does not see employment generation as an end in itself but wants a more equitable society where there are jobs.

Minister for Education, Culture and Science Yo.Otgonbayar says the capacity of the country’s 63 professional training schools was overstretched at present. With 49,000 students enrolled in schools that can train 27,000, work is often done in shifts. A study has found that 10,042 construction workers, 5,416 agricultural and 1,331 mining professionals will be needed in 2011. Auto road construction will require 3,000 trained workers but there is no facility at all for such training in Mongolia.
