The Office of the State Registrar General has begun registering Mongolian citizens who live abroad. The second phase of the civil new registration began on March 23 and covered South Korea first. Preliminary estimates are that 134,000 Mongolians abroad will come under the registration. The first phase was held in Ulaanbaatar and 21 aimags and altogether 95% or one million and 798,103 adult citizens have been registered.

The diplomatic missions of Mongolia in 40 countries are in charge of registering citizens. Special staff will be sent to register Mongolians in countries where there is no diplomatic office.
