A state inspector at the Zamiin-Uud Customs Office has been accused of helping two Mongolians smuggle 5 tons of litharge into the country. He found the toxic chemical in their car but did not take any action after being paid a bribe.
A customs inspector sent a note on the incident to the relevant department of the Anti Corruption Authority. After a probe, the ACA concluded that lax monitoring of the work of state inspectors of customs was responsible for the incident. The Zamiin-Uud Customs Office has now written to the ACA that it has taken steps to improve inspectors’ morale and strengthen monitoring to ensure such incidents did not happen again.
