The Chief of the Standing Committee on Social Policy, Education, Culture and Science, D.Ochirbat, answers our reporter’s questions.

What did your Committee do in Orkhon aimag?
We are now reviewing some draft laws on Health Insurance, and on Health and Employment Support. We asked citizens in Orkhon about their views on these and on what role social welfare should play in our social policy. We also listened to doctors’ suggestions when we visited the central hospital of the aimag. All this will be considered in our work.

What are the main difficulties facing people in the aimags?
We have adequately skilled doctors at every place but aimag hospitals lack the latest equipment. Various issues in the health and education sectors also need to be decided. Employees there have a heavy work load but receive a small salary and pension. Also, we need to provide more security to doctors working at night.

What are the Standing Committee’s plans for the Spring session?
We shall hear reports of the Ministries of Health, of Social Welfare and Labor and of Education, Culture and Science. We shall also discuss with officials of all three Ministries how they can support employment.
