During his visit to Khovd aimag, Speaker D.Demberel paid a visit to the Khushuut mines on March 27 and studied the situation there. D.Battulga, Media Director of Mo-En Co LLC, which runs the mine, gave the Speaker information and answered his questions. Demberel asked about the progress of the company’s plans to set up a power plant to serve the needs of the mines as also of local people, about the jobs being created for local people, about how it was planning for environmental rehabilitation, and expressed the hope the money on this would be spent properly. He advised the company to seek a quick end to all disputes related to its activities and to start operations without delay.
From Khushuut, the Speaker reached Tsetseg soum and met with citizens who told him their most serious problem was shortage of electricity. The soum is served only by solar power that meets a small part of the demand, and on sunless days, there is not even that. The Chief of Administration of the Energy Authority, Ts.Bayarbaatar, who was accompanying Demberel, explained that the proposed Mo-En Co plant will start generation in 2012 and will serve Tsetseg soum. If the mining company fails to set up a power plant, electricity for Tsetseg soum will be brought from Must soum.
The next day, the Speaker and his team visited Altai and Uyench soums.
