Our journalist talks to Leader of National New Party (NNP) Ts.Tsolmon.

Political parties with no seat in Parliament have been talking about a third political force. What form will this take?
The people are waiting for a new alignment of political forces. Political parties now out of Parliament should unite and the process has only begun. The split in the MPRP will be followed by the emergence of other political forces, some based on foreign principles, some on national tradition.

Will the NNP ally with the MPRP in the next election?
The NNP wants a new Constitution that would provide a new political structure to bring about Mongolia’s renaissance. We shall cooperate with likeminded political forces.

What exactly does the NNP mean by national interests and independence?
Foreign people are ready to control Mongolia’s political and economic interests, and it is important to reassert our commitment to national interests. We are told of Mongolia’s development in the last two decades, but all we see is that Mongolians have become poorer and poorer. Is this how national interests are met? How can Mongolia develop if her people become poorer?

What does the NNP see as true democracy?
We criticize the political system where 76 MPs in a chamber of Parliament decide on all issues of the country. There should at least be two chambers of Parliament, members of one of which would be elected by political parties and of the other by the people. The two chambers would criticize and monitor each other. Now the Government members are also MPs.

Does the NNP still favor a Presidential system of governance?
The President would have executive authority but he will not make laws and protocols. This power should be granted to the two chambers of Parliament. The President should be elected directly. With separation of executive and legislative powers, governance would be balanced.

What are the chances of the MPRP, the NNP and the Mongolian Traditional New Party cooperating in the 2012 election?
We are working on it. We think we represent the people.

What are your next plans?

The NNP and the civil movement for fulfillment of election pledges will jointly hold a national assembly in April, as we announced in 2010. Delegates would attend from each soum. The assembly would discuss issues facing the country and assess the performance of the present Government. We want to reform the political structure, to improve people’s lives, to have a fairer distribution of wealth, and have worthier social values.
