The MPP yesterday organized a debate on how political parties can work for parliamentary reforms. It was held at Government House and was attended by the DP Chairman, N.Altankhuyag, the Leader of the Civil Will Party, S.Oyun, the Leader of the Green Party, D.Enkhbat, the Leader of the Republican Party, B.Jargalsaikhan, the Leader of the National New Party, Ts.Tsolmon, the Leader of the Traditional United Party, B.Batbold, the Chief of the MPP group in Parliament, D.Lundeejantsan, the Chief of the DP group in Parliament, Ch.Saikhanbileg, and MPs E.Bat-Uul, Kh.Temuujin and Ts.Munkh-Orgil.

Participants focused on the merits of having two chambers of Parliament. Bat-Uul said a smaller number of MPs in each chamber would give more opportunity for more intensive discussion on issues. It would also make proceedings less unwieldy.

MPP Secretary-General U.Khurelsukh said Mongolia has a small population, and two chambers could provide for more representatives of the people discussing issues more thoroughly.

In his closing comments, Prime Minister and Leader of the MPP S.Batbold said that any reform has to be approved by not just the parties that have seats in Parliament. The views of all political parties and of society in general will have to be ascertained and compared with the opinion of scholars and analysts.
