A committee in the Ministry of Justice and Internal Affairs yesterday reviewed the latest report of the Commission of State Archives which inspects archival collections once every four years. The report covers 35 archives, including the state central archives and its four branches, eight specialized archives, 21 aimag archives and Ulaanbaatar’s archives. The aimag and Ulaanbaatar archives scored 89.5%, the specialized archives 92.2%, and the state archives 90.8%. The average score was 6% higher than in the last review.

The committee was happy with the way archives work and asked the Chief of the Archives Office to plan for a central archives center, and to frame guidelines for preservation of official documents and to improve employees’ skills. It also recommended that  the Ministries of Defense, and of Foreign Affairs and Trade, the State Prosecutor General’s Office, the Central Intelligence Agency, the Border Protection Office, the General Police Department, the Land and Geodesy Office, the Mineral Resources Authority, the Office of the State Registrar General, the Meteorology and Environment Research Office, Ulaanbaatar Railway, and the Erdenet Copper Corporation be asked to help improve the quality of archival material, to develop cyber archives, and to ensure security of data.
