Several NGOs focused on women, such as the Women Leaders Foundation, and the President’s Office yesterday held a meeting to express support for President Ts.Elbegdorj’s appeal to women to celebrate International Women’s Day on March 8 without alcohol.
Apart from NGOs’ representatives, those attending the meeting included the President’s Adviser on National Security, M.Batchimeg, the President’s Adviser on Human Rights and Citizens’ Participation, Ch.Sosormaa, the First Lady, Sh.Tsevelmaa, Honored Actress D.Mendbayar, the Speaker’s wife, M.Dolgorsuren, and the Head of the Gal Golomt Movement, D.Munkhuu.
The meeting appealed to all women to celebrate the day without alcohol and also urged amendments to laws relating to production, advertisement and sale of alcohol. It felt unwise use of alcohol by young women, and even children, can make them commit mistakes and alcohol also threatens national security as people under its influence often commit crimes.
