The cabinet discussed on Wednesday the draft of a resolution on a new state policy and program on protection from disasters that will be submitted to Parliament for approval. Proper disaster prevention and management suffers as the country does not have either the manpower or the necessary resources to adopt advanced rescue techniques. The draft proposes to involve NGOs, the private sector and citizens in implementing a national program.
After receiving Parliamentary approval of the resolution, work will begin on drawing up a policy framework to protect the population, livestock, property and the environment from disasters, through taking proper preventive steps, improving rescue capability. Success in this will strengthen social development and progress, and reduce poverty.
