Families of the 397 policemen injured during the incidents on July 1, 2008 have demanded that the Government bear all their medical treatment costs. They spoke through an NGO, Union of Police Officers’ Families, with its head, J.Altangerel, attending a press conference on Wednesday. The NGO has already written on these lines to Prime Minister S.Batbold, State Prosecutor General P.Dorligjav, and Minister for Justice and Internal Affairs D.Nyamdorj, but none of them has so far responded.
Mr. Altangerel, flanked by members of the policemen’s families, urged journalists for help, saying that a policeman had died in September as a result of injuries he received on the day of the riot. Many of those hurt that day still have unexplained headache and periods of unconsciousness. Both could be because of undetected brain injury.
The Government granted all those who were injured amounts equivalent to their salary for between 3 and 12 months but this was not adequate to meet the treatment costs of many.
