The recent handing over of USD68,000 worth of spare parts marked the end of a USD9.2-million project to provide the Mongolian border forces with a tactical radio network capable of communicating between Ulaanbaatar and Uvs, between the regimental headquarters in Uvs and company sites, and between company sites and patrols. The remote border posts in the country will now be served by small solar power generation systems. The project also included technical training for border troops.

The project was started in the summer of 2002 with a site survey in Uvs province and all the main work was completed in the summer of 2008, with the remaining funds now used to provide the spare parts for Harris radios.
