U.Khurelsukh, Prime Minister of Mongolia, has instructed the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) and the Police Department to do everything possible to help flood-affected people in the western province of Bayan-Ulgii, and to enhance disaster prevention capabilities.
The Prime Minister gave the instructions at a meeting of the State Emergency Commission following the massive flooding caused by heavy rain in some areas of the country since the beginning of July.
‘We need to focus on disaster prevention in order to protect people’s lives and property. It is important to warn the public to take the necessary precautions against possible disasters by closely cooperating with the media organisations in order to reduce disaster risks,’ he said.
More than 2,500 people in the worst-hit Bayan-Ulgii Province have been affected by the floods. The province suffered direct economic losses valued at 10 billion Mongolian tugriks (4.063 million U.S. dollars).
