Kh.Battulga, the President of Mongolia vetoed Thursday some of the decisions adopted by the State Great Khural regarding the 20 October appointment of the new government ministers. In particular, President Battulga rejected the appointment of Ch.Khurelbaatar as Finance Minister following the latter’s proposal of granting a MNT 300 thousand (USD 122) one-time bonus to the civil servants. The teachers, who have held several one-day strikes demanding pay increases, today (27 October) declared a hunger-strike in response to Ch.Khurelelbaatar’s ‘fig-leaf’.
Earlier today, the parliamentary Judicial Standing Committee discussed the presidential veto. This bodes to be an ongoing debate, as D.Erdenebat, leader of the Democratic Party group in the State Great Khural has requested an adjournment.
