The search-and-rescue operation for the avalanche victims on Mt Otgontenger entered its second day on 24th of October. So far, the mountain rescue team has retrieved fourteen bodies from the snow at a height of 3200-3400 meters. The ten survivors and the bodies of the climbers have been returned by Mi-171 helicopter to Ulaanbaatar. Conditions on the mountain are difficult; the rescuers are continuing to search for the bodies of the three remaining climbers who may be buried under five meters of snow.

A total of seventeen people went missing after an avalanche hit Mt Otgontenger on 21st of October. A group of twenty-seven climbers aged between 30 and 50 began climbing on Saturday. However, the avalanche hit when they were 50 meters below the summit.

According to the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) a total of 196 people (108 police and soldiers, 23 medical staff and 55 NEMA officers) with two helicopters and 27 special vehicles are working at a camp, which has been established at a height of 2775 meters.
