The Budgetary Standing Committee in Mongolia’s State Great Khural (parliament) has held a second debate on the 2017 budget amendment. During the debate, which took place on 24 October, MPs questioned the finance minister over the recent demands of the doctors and teachers for a salary increase.

Finance Minister Ch.Khurelbaatar explained that cabinet has been examining the possibilities for increasing the salary of civil servants. However,  the Standing Committee has proposed a ‘one-off’ MNT 300 thousand bonus for the teachers and doctors instead of increasing their monthly salary. The bonus payment will cost MNT 4 billion.
