Beginning in November, Mongolia will import 400 thousand tonnes of wheat from Russia, reports the Ministry of Food, Agriculture and Light Industry. Currently, the supply of wheat to domestic flour companies has only been met by 20 percent.
In September, Mongolia harvested 204.4 thousand tonnes of corn and 100 thousand tonnes of potatoes. In other words, 88.3 and 94.5 percent respectively of the total annual yield. Because of the 2017 drought, agricultural production, especially for cereal crops has been low, hence the need to import additional wheat from Russia.
