A total of 304 Mongolian students received tuition fee from the “Education Loan Fund” enabling them to study abroad during the years 1997-2001. According to the Mongolian Anti-Corruption Agency, the government gave them a total of USD 8.3 million worth of loans via the “Education Loan Fund”. The student loans enabled them to study abroad. It now appears that most of the students failed to register with the Ministry of Education, Culture, Science and Sports after graduation. In other words, they left education without having paid – or begun to pay back. So now, the Mongolian Anti-Corruption Agency has begun hunting these ‘education thieves’ who have not paid back their loans.

The agency has already investigated the documentation  of 344 Mongolian alumni, who studied abroad, at the State Registration Fund.
