A popular edition of the ‘Secret History of Mongols’ has now been translated into Japanese. The book was translated by Prof. Shigeo Ozawa, the general secretary for International Mongol Studies.

R.Battsengel, artist and initiator of ‘Let’s introduce the ‘Secret History of Mongols’ to the world’ project, organised an illustration contest.

The story has been published globally in 26 languages. However, the “Popular Edition” being created by project members is fully illustrated, albeit with a simpler content to give the reader a better understanding of the Mongolian history and culture.

The Secret History is undoubtedly the most famous Mongolian literary work and  was written by a close friend or family member of Genghis Khan; there is, however, no evidence to suggest anything else about the author. It is generally agreed that it was written in the thirteenth century. Proposed dates range from the late 1220s to 1245 C.E.
