South Korea’s Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to Mongolia, Mr. U Sung, in an interview to ‘Zuunii medee’ newspaper, said: ‘South Korea will consider a visa-free agreement with Mongolia if the numbers of Mongolian illegal residents decreases’. Mongolian President Kh.Battulga proposed a visa-free travel agreement between the two countries when he met the South Korean Ambassador.

According to Ambassador U.Sung, the flow of citizens between Mongolia and South Korea increased by 20 percent in the first eight months of 2017. Furthermore, more than 170 thousand people are expected to travel between the two countries by December. Because of this, the number of direct flights needs to be increased and the cost of air tickets should be reduced.

A total of 83 thousand Mongolians applied for visas in the South Korean Embassy from January to August. This year, 1700 Mongolians are beginning jobs in South Korea under a three-years agreement.

Currently, there are, over 36 thousand foreign citizens living illegally in South Korea; 10 thousand are from Mongolia. There are also about 3000 South Korean citizens living in Mongolia.
