On Monday (25th of September), the Mongolian People’s Party (MPP) will hold a congress to choose 30th Prime Minister. Competition for the key cabinet posts has been ongoing in the MPP since parliament voted to dismiss Prime Minister J.Erdenebat.

According to one source, U.Enkhtuvshin, U.Khurelsukh and N.Enkbold are competing for the Prime Minister’s seat. On Monday, a total of 330 members of the MMP congress will choose who it should be.

The MPP gained power in the mid-2016 general election in which it won 65 of the 76 seats in the State Great Khural (parliament). Last month, some 30 members of the Khural, signed a petition calling for J.Erdenebat’s resignation in the aftermath of his defeat in the presidential election, which was won by Kh.Battulga of the opposition Democratic Party.
