Thousands of students are out of school on Thursday (21st of September) as Mongolian teachers enter the first day of their strike; they are demanding that their monthly salaried be raised to MNT 1.6 million.

U.Byambasuren, who is the deputy of the Governmental Cabinet Secretariat,  said: ‘We are considering increasing the salaries of civil servants by up to 30 percent in three stages from 1st of January, 2018. We need to coordinate this with the State Budget and the current economic situation’. The teachers, however, have considered that their demands are not being met and have decided to begin their strike.

The teachers are planning another strike next Tuesday (26th of September).
