Under its Sustainable Tourism Project, Mongolia aims receive a million tourists in the next few years. Discussion on this initiative was held at the National Development Institute of Mongolia (NDIM) on 18th of September. The implementation phase of the project is expected to be launched in November.
The project will continue until 2020 and is being co-implemented by the Thailand International Cooperation Agency (TICA), the German Society for International Cooperation and the National Development Institute of Mongolia.
The north Asian country currently receives over 500 thousand tourists annually. According to official sources, tourism will contribute 14 per cent to GDP by 2020; currently, the figure is 5.3 per cent.
