The autumn session of Mongolia’s State Great Khural (parliament) will open on 1st of October. During the opening ceremony of the autumn session, parliament will approve the new prime minister. Before this, the Mongolian People’s Party (MPP) will hold a party congress on 25th of September to choose who it should be.

Following the dismissal of the prime minister last week, the State Great Khural must appoint a new cabinet and prime minister within 30 days – in other words, before 8th of October. Under Mongolian law, current incumbents will continue serving during the interim. Mongolia’s parliament voted to oust Prime Minister J.Erdenebat, late on the evening of 7th of September. The news was broken on the parliamentary website.

The MPP gained power in mid-2016 in elections in which it won 65 of parliament’s 76 seats. Last month, some 30 members of the State Great Khural, signed a petition calling for J.Erdenebat’s resignation in the aftermath of his defeat in the presidential election, which was won by Kh.Battulga of the opposition Democratic Party.
