This year, more than 30 percent of territory of Mongolia has suffered as a result of severe drought. In a statement by P.Sergelen, Minister of Food, Agriculture and Light Industries, approximately 20 percent of crops in Selenge and 50 percent in Tuv provinces have been lost this summer due to the extreme drought.

Mongolia is to import 400 tonnes of wheat from Russia at discount rates. In total, the country needs to import 170 thousand tonnes of wheat this year to meet demand. However, Mongolia will not need to import flour, the price of which will remain stable.
