The murder case of S.Zorig is to go to the High Court of Mongolia. The hearings, which are due to open on Friday (4th of August), had been postponed at the request of the families of the defendants in June.
Three suspects, namely, Ts.Amgalanbaatar, B.Sodnomdarjaa and T.Chimgee were sentenced to 20-25 years in December for killing S.Zorig, the Mongolian Minister of Infrastructure and one of the heroes of the country’s peaceful transition to democracy. Subsequently the three appealed against the verdict.
The murder of the politician took place nineteen years ago on 2nd October 1998 and for two decades has been the topic of speculation regarding high-level cover-ups. M.P. O.Baasankhuu has requested Mongolian President Kh.Battulga for an open trial.
