A total of 23 child jockeys fell off their horses and three of them were slightly injured during the horse racing at the Naadam festival. ‘Nomin’ Insurance has provided the three with nearly MNT 2 million in compensation. From this year, the child jockeys are being registered with their finger prints and are being insured for MNT 15-30 thousand each. Mongolia have been registering child jockeys since 2013.
Much has improved in recent years; only a few years ago, safety helmets were not worn and there were cases of fatalities.
