The Mongolian National Emergency Commission has met to discuss the serious situation of the forest fires. The meeting took place at the office of the Deputy Prime Minister on Sunday (15th of July). Ulaanbaatar, the capital city of Mongolia, has become enveloped in smoke from the fires. According to the National Emergency Management Agency, a total of 12 forest fires are raging nationwide; five of them in remote areas which are hard to reach. More than 700 firefighters with 30 fire-engines are fighting 16 forest fires in the Eruu, Mandal, Khuder soums (districts) of Selenge province, Khutag-Undur, Selenge soums of Bulgan province and Batsumber of Tuv province.
It is estimated that 70-80 percent of forest fires have been by a combination of human errors and the very hot weather, with temperatures of over +30 degrees.
