The first women to travel into space was Soviet-born Valentina Vladimirovna Tereshkova, who in addition to being a cosmonaut was  also Russia’s first female general as well as an engineer, master of sport  and politician.  In the early days of the space race, she was selected from more than 400 applicants and five finalists to pilot the Vostok 6 spacecraft, on June 16th 1963. Mongolian M.P. L.Bold met with her on June 23rd, during his visit to Russia at the invitation of Valentina Tereshkova, who is currently serving as a  member of the Russian State Duma.

At the meeting, MP L.Bold handed over the ‘Perpetual Glory’ award of the ‘New Mongolia Initiative’ non-government organization, which is headed by himself, to Ms.Tereshkova.

Expressing her gratitude to MP L.Bold, the former Russian cosmonaut  said that “Russia is ready to cooperate with Mongolia again taking  Mongolian cosmonauts into space. ‘Many years ago, I visited Mongolia and still remember the vast steppe and the peaceful days”.

Also, L.Bold invited Ms. V.V.Tereshkova to visit Mongolia on behalf of the ‘New Mongolia Initiative’ NGO. In response, she accepted the invitation and confirmed her readiness to visit Mongolia this summer.

Recently, U.S. aviation engineer, retired colonel and NASA astronaut,  member of the famous Apollo 11 spacecraft crew – the ‘second man on the moon’, Buzz Aldrin visited Mongolia at by the invitation of the NGO.
