This week, the month-long, 2nd International Media Arts Festival is to open in Ulaanbaatar. The event is being organised by the Arts Council of Mongolia (ACM). Officially partnering with the Goethe-Institute Mongolia, Red Hero, and sponsored by the U.S Embassy, the Tuguldur Foundation, XAC Bank, Porsche Mongolia, Mongolia Quest, APU Trading, the Arts Festival will take place from June 9th to July 9th. The UBIMAF will feature 10-15 artists from around ten different nations including Australia, the Czech Republic, Germany, Israel, Korea, Mongolia, the Netherlands, the USA, and the Philippines to celebrate diversity and innovation integral to media art. As part of the festival, two Mongolian artists will be selected and the ACM will commission two new media art works to be premiered at the opening of the festival. The festival consists of six free events that will all take place at the Mongolian National Modern Art Gallery.
Several events, such as media art, sound art, ‘trashion’ (making fashion items from re-cycled objects), VR film making workshops will be happen during the festival period. International artists Kang, Soyoung (Korea), Francis Sollano (Philippines), Timo Kahlen (Germany), Olof van Winden (the Netherlands), Lynette Wallworth (Australia) and Nicole Newnham (USA) will visit the festival and present their media artworks for Mongolian audiences.
Finally, a series of ArtSee talks have been organised for the 10th, 21th of June and 5th of July that will give participants the chance to hear from the artists involved in the festival and learn more about their projects and processes.
This inaugural International Media Festival is truly a groundbreaking event for Mongolia and all are welcome to enjoy the variety of performances, exhibitions and talks. To make the festival accessible to as many people as possible – all events will be free.
