The River Bulgan which is located in Khovd Aimag in the west of Mongolia, has flooded as a result of snow melt water from the Altai Mountains. This past winter saw greater than usual snowfall, which has led to larger volumes of snow melt. Because of the flooding, the governor of the Bulgan soum (district) has announced a state of emergency and set up a special flood unit in soum.
According to the Baiatag meteorological centre, the River Bulgan’s water level has increased from 300 cm to 378 cm and is continuing to rise.
