On 14th of May, the General Election Commission registered the Mongolian presidential nominees. The candidates were M.Enkhbold from the ruling Mongolian People’s Party, Kh.Battulga from the Democratic Party and N.Enkhbayar the leader of the Mongolian People’s Revolutionary Party.

The first two candidates were accepted – but N.Enkhbayar, a former president of Mongolia, was rejected.

The commission explained that the decision not to register N.Enkhbayar as a candidate was because incomplete documents had been submitted and his technical ‘prison sentence’ period had not finished. It will be recalled that N.Enkhbayar was imprisoned for corruption, but was given an amnesty by President Ts.Elbegdorj to serve the rest of his sentence in freedom. According to Mongolian law, a presidential candidate must have resided in the country for the last five years preceding the Election Day; N.Enkhbayar did not live in Mongolia for 13 months during the last 5 years, specifically from August 13, 2013 to October 9, 2014 when he was in Seoul, S.Korea.

In this situation, the party propose a different nominee.
