The Ulaanbaatar City Administration is planting larches and pine trees along the sides of the roads and outside tall buildings in the city, which is well known for its poor air quality. The green trees have been transplanted from forests to Ulaanbaatar city streets since April. Last autumn, more than 200 trees were transplanted along the side of Peace Avenue from the East Crossing to Ulaanbaatar Department Store.

Ulaanbaatar city aims for becoming one of the Green City of the world in the near future.

The modern ‘greening’ of Ulaanbaatar, owes much to former mayor E.Bat-Uul, who did much to bring colour to the Mongolian capital with flowers. President Ts.Elbegdorj has also been active in the national tree planting initiative, which has involved many schools and other organisations.
