Known as the Dark Blue Pearl, amazing Lake Khuvsgul lies among beautiful mountains in Mongolia’s northernmost province. The lake and surrounding area is the perfect place to have a relaxing vacation, kayaking, canoeing, hiking and trekking. Lake Khuvsgul is Mongolia ‘s largest and deepest lake and is connected via rivers to  Lake Baikal in Russia.

Getting to Lake Khuvsgul is a lot easier today than in the past since a new road has recently been constructed: the distance from Ulaanbaatar to the provincial centre, Murun, is 683 km. From Murun, the lake is another three-hours’ drive. A quicker way of getting there is flying: by plane to Murun airport, located 5 km from the town, takes an hour and a half from Ulaanbaatar. If you want travel to Khuvsgul by car and see some of  Mongolia’s top destinations en route, it will take at least 10 days. You can spend the nights in tourist ger camps along the way.
