The Ulaanbaatar
Mayor’s Office recently signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the
Millennium Challenge Account Mongolia (MCAM) on a highway project that
includes a 3.4-km road from the Uliastai intersection to the Bayanzurkh
checkpoint, a 20.9-km road to the Nalaikh district and a new bridge over the
Tuul river. The city office will be responsible for engineering, geological and hydrological
studies, geodetic measurements, environment impact assessments, and detailed
design drawings. MCC funding will be used to provide technical assistance to
improve road maintenance.
The MCAM is
already implementing the following road projects:

Construction
of an all-weather road from Choir to Sainshand,
–
Repairing
and improving the Bayanzurkh bridge,
–
Construction
of a new bridge near the existing Bayanzurkh bridge,
–
Repairing
and improving the road from Ulaanbaatar to Nalaikh, and
–
Technical
assistance activities.
