The famous 9th symphony of Beethoven was
performed by musicians of the State Philharmonic at the Academic Theater of
Opera and Ballet on December 16 for the first time in 30 years, with N.Butenbayar,
son of Ts.Namsraijav, who conducted its first performance in Mongolia, as
conductor on the present occasion. A former Deputy Minister of Culture in the socialist
period, Baatarzorigt, described the background to the performance in December,
1981.

The German Embassy helped in the
performance and Ambassador Fischer hoped Butenbayar would not have to wait for
another 30 years for the next performance. The conductor expressed his great
happiness that he has continued from where his father left off.
