PresidentTs.Elbegdorj yesterday told Mrs. Sezin Sinanoglu, the UN permanent coordinator
and the UNDP representative here, when she called on him that Mongolia would next
year be celebrating the 50th anniversary of its membership in the United
Nations. The years have seen fruitful cooperation, especially in realizing the
Millennium Development Goals (MDGs), which include poverty reduction, and in environmental
programs and peacekeeping operations.
Mrs. Sinanoglu also expressed happiness that Mongolia-UN collaboration was strong
and stable, and congratulated the President on the first anniversary of the Citizens’
Chamber, fostering participatory democracy. She appreciated the President’s
role in the Copenhagen Conference and his desire for the abolition of capital
punishment. The UN was always ready to render assistance to Mongolia to
strengthen justice and human rights and to create job places from mining
revenue.
