Chinese citizens found with large stores of meat

Winter was a time when meat prices used to remain stable
but things have changed so much that they rose by more than MNT1,000 a kilo in
the last week, to reach between MNT3,500 and MNT3,800. Several recent incidents
show how the trade has been affected by large scale penetration from Chinese traders.

Some time ago, a group of
Chinese were caught trying to smuggle a large quantity of meat, and yesterday
police, acting on information received, caught Chinese who had secretly stored
and prepared a large quantity of goat meat. Some people complained on December
3 that a large quantity of meat was stored in the cellar of a building under construction
in the 12th khoroo of Bayangol district. Police found 30 tons of goat meat
there, apparently to be smuggled out with local help.

A similar complaint was received yesterday about some Chinese storing a large
quantity of goat meat at the Eco Pet Food LLC in the 20th khoroo of
Songinokhairkhan district. Police found that a Mongolian citizen from the 18th
khoroo of Songinokhairkhan district had prepared the meat from 2,061 goats and
put it in 840 sacks.

Mongolians are buying meat at a low price from countryside herders and selling
this to Chinese for a profit. Police have appealed to citizens for cooperation.
