The President’s Office, and the Administration Office of the National
Security Council yesterday organized an open debate on in the Civil Hall on
“Use of alcohol, tobacco and drugs”, a topic suggested by the President
himself. Representatives of the Central Intelligence Service, the General
Police Department, the Customs General Board, the State General Prosecutors’
Board, the Supreme Court, the Ministry of Education, Culture and Science and
Human Rights National Commission attended the debate.

The Chief of the President’s Office, D.Battulga, noted that crimes related to
alcohol, drug and substances abuse have been increasing in recent years and
conveyed the President’s concern  that
overuse of alcohol was leading to household crises, lack of personal security
and also national security. Drink led people to commit many crimes and
Mongolians have been convicted on drug-related charges at home and in foreign
countries. The President suggests that as a first step, all state ceremonies
should dispense with the use of vodka.
