Some 20,000 herders have joined in the carcass removal program. The Labor Ministry has so far distributed MNT241.6 million as payment to them. The Ministry of Agriculture has budgeted MNT290 million to meet sterilization and other expenses. The work is expected to be over by May 15. 

Some 3.8 million livestock have perished nationwide until now and the number is likely to increase further. The beginning of warm weather means the carcasses in the countryside would decompose and may trigger infectious diseases. Experts from the General Emergency Authority are in the provinces to study the situation.

The Government decision to allocate MNT5.5 billion for removing the carcasses has been criticized. UNDP has given USD1.8 million on the work in Uvurkhanga, Dundgobi and Khovd provinces. Herders there will be given instructions and information through radio.
