With just two days left for the 26th General Assembly of the MPRP that will take far-reaching decisions, party members are busy discussing the proposed changes, in the name of the party, its ideology, and some rules. This last has divided members into opposite camps. Many feel the new rules would limit members’ freedom. There is also talk of appointing a deputy chief of the party and changing secretaries. MPs Ch.Ulaan and O.Enkhtuvshin are in competition for more important roles in the party.

Secretary-General U.Khurelsukh leads the faction that is trying to establish a stronger control of the MPRP by changing the two present Secretaries, Ts.Sukhbaatar and U.Barsbold,  replacing them with  Ch.Gankhuyag,  Director of Tenger union, and D.Tsogtbaatar, State-Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade.

More young blood is likely to be brought in. Ministers like G.Zandanshatar and D.Zorigt, MPs J.Sukhbaatar, S.Byambatsogt and J.Enkhbayar are tipped to lead the forces against the 1970s force.
