Clothes and other personal items that belonged to Itgelt lama are on show at Zanabazar Museum yesterday until April 7. Officials and visitors were surprised that the temperature in the hall, never allowed to exceed +7 C automatically rose to +16 C when the exhibition opened.

Itgelt lama was a revered monk who died in 1927. Before death, he had left instructions that his tomb should be reopened after 75 years. This was done on September 11, 2002 only to reveal that the lama’s skin was as soft as that of a living man and his joints and limbs could be moved freely. Buddhism believes that the body of a person who has mastered yoga fully will not decompose after death.

The exhibition comes here from Ulan-Ude in Buriyat.
