President Ts.Elbegdorj made time from his busy schedule
in Denmark to visit the Royal Library where he was shown its collection of
Mongolian manuscripts from the 17th and 18th centuries,
some illustrated. A Danish scholar, Kristensen, who visited Mongolia in the
1930s took back most of these manuscripts, with him and donated them to the
library. They give an idea of life in Mongolia, and of how accounts were kept
here. One of the manuscripts is of the Erdeniin Erkhi dating from 1835, which
contains the text of what lamas chanted as they counted their beads.

A newer item was no less interesting for the President.
This was a 1903 map of what was then called the Setsen Khan aimag, showing
mountains, rivers, temples and gers. The library’s Mongolian collection has
some 650 items. The President enquired about possibilities of letting Mongolia
have copies.
