Parliament will today discuss the Prosecutor General’s request
to remove Ch.Sangaragchaa from his position as head of the Anti- Corruption
Authority (ACA). The Standing Committee on Justice has washed its hand of the
matter after failing to reach a conclusion after discussing the matter in
detail.

Sangaragchaa and his deputy D.Sunduisuren have been
accused of several acts of misuse of office and power, including spending
public money for private gain like purchase of apartments for themselves and
others, and spying on officials. The Prosecutor General recommended to Parliament
on July 29 that criminal proceedings should be initiated against them after dismissal.
Sangaragchaa had then said the Prosecutor General’s action was politically
motivated and had denied all charges against him of misusing public money.

Since then the Prosecutor General has sent three reminders
to the Parliament Speaker who asked the Standing Committee to discuss the
demand and decide on it. In its turn the committee asked a monitoring subcommittee
to study the matter. The subcommittee too failed to reach a decision on any of
the issues.

A decision should have been taken within 14 days
of the original request but it has been dragging on for more than two months.
More mystery was added to the case when E.Amarbat, an ACA Department Chief, who
had been kept under secret surveillance by Sangaragchaa and Sunduisuren, was
accused of rape by an advocate, S.Ganchimeg, who repeated the accusation many
times.
