The Mayor’s Office has ordered that four khoroos of
Bayangol district, five of Chingeltei, and three of Sukhbaatar will burn only
processed coal supplied by the National Air Quality Office. These are all areas
that emit the most smoke but the number of people covered is just about 10% of
the city‘s population. Officials say that if the present program shows good
results, it can be extended to all khoroos of the city districts next winter.
The floor heating system in about 300 households in Chingeltei and Sukhbaatar
districts will also be changed.

The fines collected from users of pollutants are expected
to pay for more anti-pollution devices. Their production will thus not require
much capital from the State. However, it has to be seen how much more money
households will have to spend on using processed firewood.
