The 54th
International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) General Conference from September 20
to 24 in Vienna is being held with J.Enkhsaikhan, Permanent Representative of
Mongolia, in the chair. The regular session will discuss and approve the Director-General’s
report and the budget for 2011, and consider issues of strengthening
international cooperation in nuclear and radiation security, safety
transportation of radioactive waste, anti-terrorism measures, strengthening of
activities within the agency”s technical collaboration and actions related to
nuclear sciences and technologies and their consumptions, improving of effects
of the structure of nuclear guarantees, realizing the agreement on nuclear
guarantee established between North Korea and the IAEA, utilizing the agency”s
guarantee in the Middle East, and on the nuclear capacity of Israel.
Enkhsaikhan has also met with Gary Samore, a Special Assistant to the U.S
President and the White House Coordinator for Arms Control and Weapons of Mass
Destruction and Terrorism. They shared views on some issues reflected in the
session”s agenda on the nuclear capacity of Israel and the Middle East, and
expressed the hope that this session will reach an agreement on the issues.
As part of preparing for the session, Enkhsaikhan held meetings with some 60
officials, including Yukiya Amano, the IAEA Director-General; permanent
representatives of some countries; and officials of the IAEA”s Secretariat.
